Abstract

The topic of this paper is the argument about the desirability of the foreign aid. It argues that foreign aid gives the weak countries harms rather than benefits. There are three reasons for argument. The first is that foreign aid does not contribute substantially to economic strides in developing countries, and the second is that foreign aid presents the political and psychological harms. The third reason is that foreign aid enlarges the gap of power and influence between the strong countries and the weak countries.

To use foreign aid is beneficial or harmful to the weak country?

According to Tarnoff and Nowels (2004), “In 2004, the United States is providing some form of foreign assistance to about 150 countries. Israel and Egypt continue, as they have since the late 1970s, as the largest recipients, although Iraq, receiving over $20 billion for reconstruction activities since mid-2003, is the biggest recipient in FY 2004” (para.3). As in the above example, there is much foreign aid which means bilateral development assistance, humanitarian assistance, multilateral assistance and military assistance all over the world. That is to say, in these days, foreign aid is considered as natural and commonplace. However, while most people think foreign aid as favorable campaign, there are many harmful facts of foreign aid. Especially, it contains the problems concerning the politicians and psychology. Furthermore, it makes the gap of the economy and the strength bigger among the countries. Thus we have to check the disadvantages, and revise it.
Foreign aid is “aid, such as economic or military assistance, offered by one nation to another” (“Foreign aid”, n, para.2 ).”Foreign aid may be given in the form of capital transfers or technical assistance and training for either civilian or military purposes. Its use in the modern era began in the 18th century, when Prussia subsidized some of its allies. After World War II, foreign aid developed into a more sophisticated instrument of foreign policy. International organizations, such as the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration, were created to provide aid to war-ravaged countries and newly freed colonies” (“History of foreign aid”, n, para.2 ). In “In Recent Years” the author claims “In 2000, U.S. aid foreign aid amounted to $10billion (n, para ,1). Some people who agree on foreign aid say that because it offers the chance of the growth that it is a good campaign. On the other hand, other people claim “Because foreign aid eventually trespass the authority of the assisted countries. it is not good campaign” (“The Role of Foreign Aid in Development”, 1997, para.8 ). However, despite the merits of foreign aid, there are many disadvantages.
The primary reason is that foreign aid does not contribute significantly to economic progress in developing countries. Aid that is intended to increase development may enable some regimes to divert money to other, nonproductive activities (“The Role of Foreign Aid in Development”, 1997, para.8 ). In other words, finance, money, and a lot of aids for economic growth are used to increase the private wealth for the specific people such as the governor. From the past to now on these phenomena have taken place throughout all over the world, especially in the developing countries. Thus, aid is wasted in countries that do not have the technical or administrative ability to absorb and use it properly. Furthermore, in case of the infrastructure projects, for example electricity, road and plant, if foreign aid is mainly focused on such as things, most of all people who need food and beverage will have lot’s of mistrust the government and foreign aid. As above examples, foreign aid brings about unbeneficial results such as the corruption and disbelief.
Moreover, foreign aid often gives the developing countries the political disadvantage and psychological harms. Baurer (1997) argued that aid has serious, distorting consequences in the political life of recipient countries. Aid is generally transferred to the government of those countries, which tends to increase the government’s power. In other words, the countries that furnish the foreign aid to the developing and the weak countries want to possess the strong influences on the poor and the developing countries. That is to say, the purpose of the foreign aid is used to invade the sovereignty of the weak countries regardless of the original pursuit of the foreign assistances. Furthermore, foreign aid is able to make the citizens of the weak countries lose their root life. In other words, foreign aid is not totally economical assistance and help. That is to say, not only substantial aid but also psychological attitude, mind and culture is obviously introduced. In this time people living in the poor country will experience the chaos of psychology because they will use the cultures and habits which are mixed between their own cultures and assistant countries’ culture. As the result, this implies that the weak and developing countries will be colonized by the countries which present help. On account of trespass of the sovereignty and disturbance of the culture, foreign aid is not beneficial,
Finally, foreign aid makes the developed countries stronger. From the past days to these days, several strong countries have overwhelmed all over the world in terms of politics, culture and economy. It involves the inequality of the power. In other words, due to foreign aid, the inequality will be bigger. Nowdays, many developed and strong countries are competing about helping the poor and the weak countries. However, the countries which assisted weak countries want to receive the resources and raw materials of the assisted countries more than things which they already gave to the poor countries. To be specific, in these days, assistant countries desire to obtain a lot of natural resources and the rights which they can exploit and used to do business without interference of the other countries’. Due to foreign aid, the stronger the powerful countries are, the weaker the poor are. That is to say, foreign aid is just fake help. As the result of the foreign aid, the gap of economic power and political influence is centered a few strong countries.
Opponents of resisting foreign aid claim that foreign aid creates many jobs. However, this claim is not regarded as the beneficial results. For example, in the weak country, the company that is made by assistant country merely uses workforce by paying very cheap salary. Then, the owner of the company sends the enormous proceeds to his own country. In other words, even though the company has made enormous profits, they do not utilize the money for the weak countries that the strong company already invested. It is same as if the weak countries are robbed of workforce by the strong countries. For this robbery of the workforce, foreign aid makes weak countries poorer.
In conclusion, foreign aid gives the disadvantages and harmful results rather than goodwill benefits. Most of all, foreign aid involves corruption and mistrust. Moreover, in terms of the political and psychological aspects, it bring about many harm. Finally, foreign aid makes the gap between the strong and the weak countries bigger. Sometimes, there are admirers of foreign aid. However, through the above examples of foreign aid, we can understand that the harm and
disadvantages are more than benefits. Thus, the strong countries have to stop assisting the weak countries.

Is it advisable that professional athletes often make huge salaries?

Today, many sports stars are earning unbelievable salaries. According to Michael(2007) “Beckham, 31, has signed a five-year deal worth close to $250 million in salary and sponsorships to leave Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid at the end of its current season and move to the Los Angeles Galaxy in August”(para.1). Some people censured the news because the gap of wealth between the poor and the rich is getting bigger. However, according to Wener (1996) “The sports industry is a 90 billion industry, athletes’ incomes are only 5 percent of that” (para.3). That is to say, earnings of sports stars have small volume of whole sports industry.
Consequently, because they do their best personally and have important roles financially and socially, they have to be compensated enough.

The primary reason is that professional athletes have a short span as the sports players. In other words, they have short time to be able to earn the money. For example, a general worker, cashier, accountant, entrepreneur or technician who receive the normal salary they can work at least for 50 years until they retire. However, professional athletes are capable of acting as workers for about 20 years at most. That is to say, athletes have less time to make money than general workers. Thus, professional have to earn plenty of money to live the rest of their life during the short duration. Additionally, according to Edison(1931) “The success is possible with 1% inspiration and 99% effort” The above sentence explain us that persistence and passion are required to succeed in a certain part. Professional athletes are passionate and sweat enough to succeed in their parts. For these reasons, they must receive enormous compensation.

Moreover, professional athletes give many enterprises priceless profits. To be specific, In “Fortune Calculates Michael Jordan's Impact on Economy” the author tell us “As hard as it may be to calculate Jordan's overall impact on Nike (a former company executive describes him as the embodiment of Nike's image, and what, FORTUNE asks, is that worth?), the magazine estimates it at $5.2 billion, including $2.6 billion in the still-popular Air Jordan sneakers and other Jordan-related Nike products” (1998,para.4). Additionally, professional athletes bring not only company’s profit but also national profits. The globally widespread popularity of
professional athletes makes country’s merchandise sell very well. Because professional athletes help their enterprises and nations, they have adequate value to compensate for their ablities and efforts.

Finally, professional athletes contribute to society. For instance, sports celebrities donate enormous money to the assistance organization. They do not use up their fortunes for their own sake ,and they help the weak and the poor. Furthermore, professional atheletes are regarded as the icon of juveniles. Children always envy sports celebrities because of their wealth and
popularity and dream to live as sports star. Thus, children aim to be famous and powerful men with the fames of sports celebrities. In short, their high salaries encourage the young to work or study hard.
Opponents of professional atheletes making huge salaries say that Sports stars’ making too much money stimulate a feeling that ones do not possess wealth. However, when general workers see higher salaries, most workers are inspired to raise their ablities rather than feel incompatible for better benefits and more income.

In conclusion, for sports athletes to make enormous money is desirable. They have shorter duration to earn money than any other workers. Furthermore, professional athletes endure their own wants with numerous efforts. Additionally, professional celebrities endow firms and their own countries with numerous gains. Finally, sports athletes have an significant role in helping the weak and being a model to the juvenile. In conclusion, because the advantages of the
above reasons are even better than disadvantages, sports celebrities have to be properly
rewarded.

Summary Response

Is it advisable to find solutions for corruption?

In David’s article entitled “Fighting Corruption Is a Global Concern”, he points out that anti-corruption conference in Beijing help Canadians because preventing the corruption is good for economic growth, citizens’ life, and trust to government and non government organizations. First of all he stated that anti-corruption campaigns are widespread all over the world by a variety of organizations. Furthermore, he informed us of the magnitude of corruption throughout the specific figures. Next, he explained to us about the disadvantages of the corruptions. Those contain interference of the economic growth, diminishment of citizens’ life of quality and reduction of trust to each organization. Third, he pointed out the ways that we have to implement. That means appropriate legislation, recognition of the rules and precise implementation of policies. In conclusion the author states that there are even difficulties of forbidding of the corruption. Nevertheless, according to examples of Canada, he informed us of benefits of anti-corruptions.
It is not clear that anti-corruption is very beneficial because its useless efforts. It can not save money as well as citizens from social matters. The author has the useful point of view. Anti-corruption has many merits. However, diverse organizations including private, governmental and non-governmental organization should recommend that anti-corruption campaign be lessened because of different culture of each country’s, natural characteristic of human and misapplication of the anti-corruption.
First, anti-corruption efforts can not control diverse cultures of each country’s. To be specific, as there are many differences throughout the race and country, many differences exist in terms of the culture. For example, a country that respects the most important family and friend prefer the guard of the relationship to observe the anti-corruption rules. Therefore, because of a variety of the cultures, the commonplace anti-corruption campaign is useless to block the corruption.
Second, anti-corruption is not able to succeed due to the inherent human traits. According to the view of human nature as fundamentally depraved, human is originally black-hearted. That is to say, human likes to disobey the rules and restrictions on account of the inborn nature. Consequently, no matter how strong and stern the anti-corruptions are, people will not obey and regard just like the efforts as trivial things. In brief, people will neglect any other rules and limitations.
Finally, because of the misuse, anti-corruption efforts bring about worse problems. In general, people are jealous of the success and advance of other men. To be specific, throughout the various histories, we can see the fact that expectative and successful great men were killed by the plot of other people. As the above instance, in case that the anti-corruption rules exist, most people will misuse this regulation to make other men damaged. Furthermore this phenomena result from the distrust among the people. Therefore, anti-corruption campaign will fail on account of disbelief.
In conclusion, anti-corruption efforts are of no use. First of all, multifarious cultures and habits keep people from protecting the anti-corruption services. Moreover, envy makes the anti-corruption be in vain. Finally, because of the entirely wrong use, anti-corruption campaigns are valueless. According to the above reasons, we can recognize the futile effects of the anti-corruption pains.
